August 24, 2008 - Psalm 139 “Intimacy With God”
- Discuss something that you took from today’s message.
Psalm 139:1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
- Why do you think we as people, even Christians, resist being fully known?
- What is required to break down that resistance?
Psalm 139:4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
- How often are you aware that God is fully aware of your words, thoughts, & motives?
- How should an increasing awareness affect our daily lives?
- Should this awareness bring hindrance or freedom?
Psalm 139:7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
- Describe a time when you attempted to flee from intimacy with God.
- What did you get out of that experience?
Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
- What prevents us from praising God for how we have been made?
- What voices tell you that you are less than adequate?
- What could you accomplish if you realized the full purpose God has for your life (i.e., what would you do if you knew that you had the full backing of God behind you to do something great for His name?)
- Do you REALLY believe that God has something specific purposed for your life? If so, what is it?
Psalm 139:17-18 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
- What specific attributes (if any) of God do you love to think about and wonder?
- Does that prompt a response in your worship life?
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
- What is preventing you from relinquishing independence and experiencing intimacy with God?
- How can you personally experience intimacy with God? What steps can you take?
- How does knowing that God’s intimate knowledge of you enables Him to care for you perfectly encourage you?
